In St. Helens, there aren’t many options for a late-night food or drink, but a new market that strives to serve the community at all hours has opened after years of planning.
American Market opened on April 24 and will be open for business 24 hours a day at 115 N 18th St. in St. Helens. The area, which had housed an arcade, will now host one of St. Helens’ few full-time businesses.
American Market’s proprietor, Manpreet Singh, was motivated to open the store after realising that St. Helens lacked establishments that catered to late-night customers. Convenience shop American Market offers a variety of goods in addition to food and drinks, such as prescription drugs and other grocery items too.
We are available around-the-clock. Nothing was open at night in this area as I drove down the road,” Singh remarked. “Perhaps some children require medication, or something like. Where are people going to go if they need anything? We believe that 24-hour is the greatest option because of this. We are here for the people at all times.
There are coolers and refrigerators filled with drinks and beer, and shelves brimming with sweets, beef jerky, and chips. A milkshake, ice cream, and hot deli will also be available at the market.
The path to get here has been lengthy. Nearly four years after Singh purchased the building in 2020, he has successfully completed the last City of St Helens inspection.
