Waqa Blake, a winger for St. Helens, says he is “loving” his time with Paul Wellens’ team and would be very willing to remain longer.

The Fijian international, who has played in 12 Red V games so far, joined at the Totally Wicked Stadium with a one-year contract back in January.
Blake had a mixed start to life in Super League, having just signed a contract towards the close of pre-season and the season commencing less than a month after his arrival in England. It must be said that Blake was immediately behind the eight ball.

However, as the season has gone on, Blake has begun to settle in after making a few weight loss and fitness and match sharpness gains. He has scored six tries in his last six games whilst making a positive impact on Wellens’ side with his strong carries out of backfield.

When asked about his recent improvement, Blake told Love Rugby League, “I think the track is drying up a bit for me.” “I had to slightly reduce my size when I arrived since I was a little out of shape, but the staff has been amazing; they have supported me and believed in me, so all I’m doing is working hard to return their favour.
As a winger, my duties are really straightforward: I simply need to run hard, carry hard, and get us out of the backfield.

“The boys I play with are the reason I’m enjoying my stay here so much. I believe they bring out the smile in me, not just myself.

Blake’s contract with the Saints is set to expire at the conclusion of the current season, as he signed a one-year agreement with them at the beginning of the year.

The 29-year-old acknowledged that, at the moment, he is not very concerned with his future and is just focused on giving St Helens his best rugby; nevertheless, he is very much open to the idea of playing in the Red V after this season.
