In a highly competitive top end of the standings, the injury-ravaged Saints will have a difficult challenge tonight against the Catalans Dragons. The current league leaders might put some gap between themselves and the visiting team in fifth place.

With five front-line forwards injured in addition to captain Jonny Lomax, the task would have been difficult even without the injuries. Recent experience supports this. The Saints have suffered five straight losses to the Dragons, four of which were away games at Perpignan.

They have all been close games, with two decided by a single goal and two others by a single point.

Coach Paul Wellens does not think that beating this current bad team mentally, even in spite of the losing streak against the Dragons.

“We recognise that the Catalans are a formidable team, and many of our games against them have been close,” Wellens stated.

“I’m sure that this one won’t be any different; sometimes you may lose close games, and regrettably, we’ve had some poor outcomes against them recently.
