The Cypriot is out of contract at the end of the season but is set to remain in Paisley.

Alex Gogic’s new contract agreement has significantly boosted St Mirren’s European push.

The international player from Cyprus was without a contract this month, but they have worked out a long-term agreement. The 30-year-old, who left Hibs two years ago, is set to sign a new three-year contract and has established himself as a vital member of Stephen Robinson’s team. Jim Gillespie, the director of Saints, played a significant role in securing the Gogic contract. Gogic, who assisted St. Mirren achieve their first-ever top six split result the previous season, is hoping for even greater success this time around with a European spot.

The large defender helped the Buddies win convincingly last weekend against Dundee, putting them five points ahead of their closest opponents. St. Mirren is aware that they will compete in the Europa Conference League the following season if they can finish in the top five. Jonah Ayunga, Scott Tanser, and James Bolton are among the players that Robinson recently persuaded to sign contracts.

They remain in talks with Keanu Baccus and Ryan Strain but as it stands both look likely to move on. Robinson already has an eye on next season and is trying to land defender Kofi Balmer from Crystal Palace.
