Another St Mirren key striker developed unusual injury for the rest of the season

For the remainder of the season, Harambee Stars boss Engin Firat will have to make do without the Kenyan striker, while St Mirren will be hoping he heals in time for the World Cup qualifying matches.
Jonah Ayunga, a striker for Harambee Stars and St Mirren, will miss the rest of the season following successful knee surgery. This is a setback for both teams.

Both the player and his club are devastated by the news, as Ayunga had been gradually getting back to his previous level following an extended layoff due to injury.

Ayunga, who marked his debut for Kenya against Malawi in March, had only recently made a comeback from a nine-month-long injury layoff in December.

In spite of this setback, he has made 12 league games for St Mirren since recovering, demonstrating his tenacity and will on the pitch.

Stephen Robinson, the head coach of St Mirren, confirmed Ayunga’s prolonged absence by stating that the striker had surgery to treat a knee issue.

Ayunga would miss the remainder of the season, according to Robinson, who had told the media that they were hoping for a quicker recovery time.

He made it clear, though, that the ailment was not to the same knee that had kept the 26-year-old out of action for the most of 2023.

Ayunga joined St Mirren in the summer of last year, and before rupturing his ACL in January, he made an immediate impression by scoring seven goals in 24 games.

The fans and team will definitely feel his absence because they had anticipated his sustained contribution to their season.
