Rangers have reportedly increased their interest in Connor Barron, a midfield player who Swansea City is pursuing. The Scottish powerhouses seem committed to making a move for the player. The midfield player has been watched closely in SA1 since the Swans made an unsuccessful bid on deadline day in January. They had thought that this summer, when Barron’s Aberdeen contract expired, a move may finally be considered. But with Ibrox’s interest growing, Swansea’s hopes of signing the 21-year-old seem to be dwindling.
As to our colleagues at the Daily Record, the young player, who is considered as one of the most promising prospects in Scottish football right now, has received an improved offer from Rangers.
In addition to Swansea, Cardiff City has also been reported to have made an offer; Hellas Verona, Plymouth Argyle, and Stoke City are also thought to have made bids.
Barron just got back from vacation, so he’ll probably decide soon. If he decides to leave Scotland, Aberdeen might receive little more than £500,000 in training compensation.
But if he signed with Rangers, the Ibrox team would have to settle on a transfer fee with the Dons or face a tribunal.
Barron’s departure would be the first setback for Swansea this summer, as the team will need to make significant changes to their roster in the upcoming weeks.
“I can confirm that I have had multiple meetings with players via the laptop in addition to sitting with them in person,” he said to the BBC.
“We’ve done a great job assembling this information to show the players the lengths to which we, as a club, have gone to identify them.
“That suggests to you that we are attempting to be proactive and competitive in the market.”
