If Ashfield District planners approve their approval, a new independent pub could open in Sutton, Ashfield town centre. Dorothy Wyville has asked for a change of use to convert the former D M Furnishings store on Low Street into a “small bar”.

If permitted, the new bar would sell “wet led products” and have no space for food preparation. The ideas include new restrooms, studded fire-proof walls, and CCTV. There will be no structural walls removed, and the front of the building will not be altered save for new signage and CCTV.

“We are extremely proud that our newly acquired premises are located within the Sutton in Ashfield Church and Market Place Conservation Area,” Wyville wrote in a letter to planners. “Because of our long-standing residency in Sutton in Ashfield, we have the utmost respect for the place, its ecology, and the people who live there.

“Because of this we have no intentions now, nor in the long-term future, of ever changing the structure of the premises in any way that would be detrimental to the area, nor alter the area’s current aesthetics.”

Ashfield District Council planners will make a decision on the application by June 3.
