Lock, Stock & Barrel will open in the former Vesey Pharmacy, and owner Tom O’Rourke promises to bring something new to Sutton.

A new pub, comedy and music venue is planned to open in the former Sutton Coldfield pharmacy. Lock, Stock, and Barrel will open in the old Vesey Pharmacy on Birmingham Road, which Tom O’Rourke owns.

Tom has been running the Peaky Blinder bar, now called The Garrison, in Dale End, Birmingham, for nine years. But he is from Sutton, and his family once owned the Flints Bar in Mere Green.

They also opened O’Rourke’s, a pub and bed and breakfast, in Digbeth, as well as HW in Erdington. His Peaky Blinders-themed tavern in the city centre has been a huge success, with hundreds of thousands of visitors tagging it in Instagram images each year.

Tom, who used to live in Four Oaks but is now based in Boldmere, is hoping his new Sutton pub will be a success. He remarked, ‘There’s nothing like this in Sutton.

Every weekend, there will be live comedy and music, street sellers, and ‘kitchen takeovers’, as well as a midday menu on weekdays. The venue also features a jukebox and an upstairs retro game room featuring table football, a claw crane grabber machine, and three classic arcade machines.

It also features a beer garden and an Only Fools and Horses van, which Tom won in a poker game. The main bar area is downstairs and has a variety of seating, with two other rooms upstairs that also have seating.

The 39-year-old stated, “There’s nothing like this in Sutton.” We require a comedy venue in the town centre. The Station is only open periodically. We will meet at least once a week.

“People should laugh more, especially after Covid. People can come for a beer, some street food, and a good chuckle and leave satisfied.”

In addition to comedy evenings, there will be live music in the back room, which can also be booked for events. Tom went on, “I think this is what Sutton needs.”

Carling beer and black fruits cider, Madri, Atlantic Pale Ale, Guinness, and Sharp’s Cold River cider will all be available on tap. There will also be Smirnoff cocktails such as passion fruit martini, strawberry daiquiri, pink martini, and expresso martini.

Coke is also available on tap, and bottled beers will be added soon. The venue will also sell a variety of whiskies and brandies. Tom stated that prices will be ‘competitive’.

The remodelling took three months due to a delay in obtaining a premises licencing. He had originally intended to open before Christmas. He follows a Field of Dreams ideology. Tom, who ran for MP in Erdington last year, remarked, “If you build it, they will come.” We’ll host open mic nights for local bands.

“We’ll have a soft opening, hopefully on Sunday, to make sure everything works. And the official opening is next Tuesday (May 30) at 10 a.m.”
