Michael McDaid is accused of killing Rachel McDaid

A 60-year-old man was accused of killing his wife, and he has since shown up in court. When Michael McDaid appeared from detention at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court on Monday, April 22, he was wearing a grey t-shirt and grey jogging trousers. He was accompanied by a lone female dock officer. He only spoke to confirm his name, residence, and birthdate.

Rachel McDaid is a mother of three whose body was discovered at her Nottingham Road, Eastwood, house early on Friday, April 19. The defendant is charged with her murder. Her family expressed their shock at the death in a statement issued over the weekend by Nottinghamshire Police.

“You are charged with murder and I have no jurisdiction to deal with the matter so you are going to the crown court and you will appear there tomorrow morning,” said District Judge Grace Hale, remanding the accused into custody. You will be brought in person to face the murder charge together with the related narcotics case.

“I am remanding you into custody in the interim.”

The 53-year-old’s body was found inside the residence on April 19, just after 11 a.m., prompting emergency personnel to the address. Police then opened an investigation, and shortly after, her husband was taken into custody on murderous suspicions. They then filed charges of murder and possession of a Class B narcotic against McDaid, who was formerly of Nottingham Road, Eastwood, on Sunday, April 21.

Detective Chief Inspector Clare Dean of Nottinghamshire Police made the following remark in a statement made public over the weekend: “As we announce this charge, my thoughts remain with the family, who must be going through the worst pain imaginable.”

“Specially-trained officers are in the process of providing them with support and this will continue during this difficult time.”

The family of Mrs. McDaid released the following statement: “We are devastated by the loss of our cherished mother, daughter, sister, aunt, and cousin.

“Rachel left us unexpectedly, and we are still struggling to accept that we won’t see her lovely face or smile ever again. We were a close-knit family that enjoyed humour and quality time together, so Rachel’s passing has left an unfillable void. We are genuinely heartbroken.

McDaid will make his next appearance at Nottingham Crown Court on Tuesday, April 23. McDaid previously told the court that his address was “a narrowboat” off Acre Lane, Aston-on-Trent, Derby.
