A Swindon man’s body was discovered inside his house when neighbours became worried.

On Friday, May 10, the inquest into the death of Walcot resident Lee James Emblen, 47, came to a close.

During the trial, Swindon and Wiltshire Coroners’ Court was told by one of his neighbours that she used to see him strolling past her house on a regular basis. However, she went to check on him a few days after noticing he hadn’t been home and discovered his feet on the ground through a window.

On March 26, 2023, Mr. Emblen was discovered unconscious on the floor. After emergency personnel arrived, his death was officially declared.

Statements from Mr. Emblen’s father, the Avon and Wiltshire Mental Health Partnership, and the rehabilitation group Turning Point were read out by coroner Mr. Ian Singleton.

It was determined that Mr. Emblen had a history of severe mental illness, frequent drug use, and a great deal of loss throughout his life.

Moreover, he had been deeply affected by the death of his brother Paul, who used to take care of him and live with him, earlier this year.

However, there were no indications that he had killed himself on purpose, and Mr. Ridley ruled out suicide in his calculations.

Instead, he blamed Mr. Emblen’s death on drug overdose, since autopsy results showed antidepressant medication toxicity, which was made worse by his body mass and absent kidney.
