Gavin Gunning has made a suggestion that during the course of the upcoming week, the Swindon Town team will find out more about their individual futures.

There is a great deal of uncertainty over the composition of the squad going forward, as only six players on the present roster are assured to be Swindon players when pre-season gets underway. The circumstances surrounding the other seventeen players who are under permanent contract are also unclear.

When his current contract ends at the end of June, Williams Kokolo disclosed last week that he had not had any discussions with the club regarding the possibility of receiving a new one.

Gunning said that the players might not be in the dark for very long when talking about what the current team has to play for in the games remained in the season.

“I think everyone is playing for something, everybody has something on the line, whether you want to try to get a deal here or go to a different club,” he stated.

“There is loads to play for, personal pride, if you are a professional footballer then you only get to play for so long.

“You have got to be positive and enjoy what you are doing because you are so lucky to be in this job.

“I think the boys will obviously get more of an inkling of what is happening in the next week or so and we will go from there.”

However, whilst the players might be getting a look at what is to come for them, Gunning himself remains no closer to learning whether he will be given the Town job on a full-time basis following a three-month spell in charge of the team.

The 33-year-old has won four of his 14 games since taking over from Michael Flynn in January and being handed the remainder of the season and has not been shy about saying that he would like to get the job permanently.

“I don’t know [what will happen], but I can only try to keep winning games and watch where we end up,” he remarked.

[Is that annoying you?] Not really, though. I work for Swindon Town, and I’m just trying to do my best work here.

“I just take each day as it comes because I am fortunate to be in this position, but I am positive that I will be here.”
