Update as swindon town centre road closed after four-vehicles involved in a serious crash

After escaping the site of the Swindon incident, a suspected drunk driver was caught.

Following a traffic accident tonight, a town centre route in Swindon is closed.

At about 8:15 p.m., police were called to reports of a four-vehicle collision in Station Road.

Just before the bend into Gloucester Street, a white van crashed into a Jaguar and then into the back of a silver van. There was also some minor damage to a Mini Cooper.

The silver van’s driver only had whiplash; no one else was seriously hurt.

Between Cheltenham Street and the train station, the route is blocked to vehicles but is available to pedestrian traffic.

Police at the scene stated that the road segment will probably stay closed until about 10.30 p.m.
