Tributes have been paid to a prominent figure in grassroots football.

with nearly thirty years, Colin Nunn served in a variety of capacities with Swindon Town Football Club. He was a referee and “advocate” for youth football teams.

Danielle Jones, his 24-year-old stepdaughter, revealed that the 51-year-old had passed away on March 15th due to cancer.

“He was the best dad that I could have asked for – he would go above and beyond for all of us,” she stated.

Despite having “all the credentials” to advance in refereeing, she said Mr. Nunn continued to work with grassroots clubs, assisting young male and female players in making their professional football debuts.

Swindon Town’s club photographer, Callum Knowles, has known Mr. Nunn for almost a decade.

“Everyone loved him, both the players and the fans,” Mr. Knowles stated.

Swindon Town Football Club released the following statement on X: “We are all devastated to learn of the demise of one of our colleagues, Colin Nunn.

“Colin has supported Swindon Town Football Club his entire life and played on the team for more than 30 years.

“Thoughts and condolences are with Colin’s family and friends at this time.”

‘Best possible send-off’

The goal of Mr. Nunn’s family’s fundraising is to provide him “the best possible send-off that he deserves”.

To date, almost £2,900 has been raised. Any money that is left over, according to Ms. Jones, would be given to Prospect Hospice, who assisted in providing for him in his last days.

“We feel like we owe them a lot because of how well they looked after my dad” , said Ms Jones.
