Police were called to a collision between a car and a pedestrian on Upham Road near South View Avenue at approximately 5:40 p.m. on Monday.
Police reported that a guy in his 50s had passed away at the site around 11:50 p.m.
Officers with specialised training have been notified and are providing help to his family.
The man in his 30s who was operating the car has been detained and is being questioned.
Upham Road is still blocked while investigators continue their work.
“This is a tragic incident where a man has lost his life in a collision with a vehicle, and our thoughts are with his family at this devastating time,” stated Detective Superintendent Charlotte Tucker.
“I can tell the public that we have detained a man in relation to the event and that a comprehensive investigation is currently underway.
“While investigations are ongoing, there will be more police officers in the neighbourhood to provide our communities peace of mind.
“Please don’t hesitate to speak with one of our officers if you have any concerns.”
