Mitchell Malborn endangered people’s lives, and Gloucestershire Constabulary called his actions “mindless.”

A disqualified Gloucester driver who led police on a chase through Swindon in a Ford Transit van has been sentenced to suspended jail time. Mitchell Malborn disregarded police orders to stop and took off at a high rate of speed—40 mph in a 20 mph zone.

He eventually entered a residential estate and leaped out of the van while it was still moving. The vehicle stopped in front of a house in a bush.

Malborn attempted to run away but was caught, arrested, and charged. He appeared in court the following day after being placed under remand.

At Swindon Magistrates’ Court on February 28, the 27-year-old of Over Bridge, Over, Gloucester, entered a guilty plea to charges of driving while disqualified, using a vehicle without insurance, and failing to stop. He was given a 12-month driving ban, an eight-week prison sentence that was suspended for a year, and 150 hours of unpaid labour.

It comes after an incident that occurred on February 27, 2024, in the afternoon, when Malborn drove by on-duty traffic police officers stationed in Homington Avenue, Coate, Swindon. The officers were in a Ford Transit Connect.

Malborn sped off when the cops turned around in the road, reaching a speed limit of 20 mph in a 20 mph zone. Malborn was told to stop by the officers, but he didn’t try to slow down and kept driving until he got out of the car in Rowden Close while it was still moving.

Computer Luke Hobbs stated: “It is incredibly fortunate that no one was seriously injured as a result of Malborn’s thoughtless actions. He put the lives of other road users and pedestrians at risk.” It is appropriate that he be given another disqualification because his driving fared far worse than what we would anticipate from a skilled driver.
