Here’s everything we know about today’s tragic crash on Topsham Road

Tragic information regarding today’s horrific incident on Exeter’s Topsham Road have been confirmed by the police.

The motorcycle’s rider, who was only 22 years old, passed away at the site in spite of attempts to save him.

After colliding with the motorbike and its rider, an 82-year-old pedestrian was taken to Derriford Hospital, where he is still critically injured in his legs.

The road will stay blocked as forensic teams continue their investigation at the location, which is outside the Aldi supermarket, the Force has also confirmed.

The crash happened at around 3pm this afternoon (Friday,jully 24).

Devon Air Ambulance paramedics were forced to carry out open heart surgery on the young motorcyclist before he was pronounced dead on the roadside.

The death was initially confirmed by Sgt Harry Tangye, on scene this afternoon, who said paramedics ‘gave him every bit of hope possible.’

A wealth of emergency service resources attended the incident, including several police traffic units, two air ambulance helicopters, three ambulances and two rapid response cars.

How to avoid Topsham Road as crash scene investigation continues

With Topsham Road likely to remain closed for at least two to three hours, police are asking drivers to avoid the area.

The alternative route between the two locations is to travel via the Sandygate roundabout and A376.
