In a joint statement released on Sunday, the Maine State Troopers Association and the Maine Fraternal Order of Police held District Court Judge Sarah Churchill accountable for the crimes of gunman and arsonist Leein Hinkley on Saturday.
AUBURN: Judge Sarah Churchill of District Court was chastised by the Maine Fraternal Order of Police and the Maine State Troopers Association in a joint press release on Sunday for lowering Leein Amos Hinkley’s bond, a 43-year-old Lewiston resident.
According to authorities, Hinkley turned Russell Avenue in Auburn upside down early on Saturday when he attacked a woman and her significant other at their home and started a fire that damaged both the house and a nearby property.
After an hours-long confrontation, a state police officer shot Hinkley dead on a Russell Avenue rooftop as the woman managed to flee to safety.
Later on, human remains were discovered among the woman’s home’s debris.
According to the press release, Churchill could have stopped all of this.
