The Toronto Blue Jays are continuing to rack up hits. The Blue Jays have had a very terrible season overall, and now they have some worrying injury news regarding a key member of their team.
Closer Jordan Romano has been out for the season, according to Blue Jays manager John Schneider. Romano had only made 15 appearances prior to being placed on the injured list in May because of inflammation in his elbow.
According to Arden Zwelling of Sportsnet, Romano “ran out of time” while trying to return to the Blue Jays this season after throwing in Florida.
To ensure that Romano is prepared for Spring Training in 2025, Schneider outlined the remainder of his rehabilitation schedule.
Schneider stated, “I think just keeping his arm going, but I don’t think there’s going to be any innings in the offseason.”
Romano won’t likely play in any Winter Leagues, and the first time he will throw in a game-like setting will be at the Blue Jays’ Spring Training in Dunedin when pitchers and catchers report in February.
The Blue Jays have suffered a severe blow, but it makes sense that they are not pushing for Romano’s return. The Blue Jays, who are presently bottom in the AL East, are only thinking about the future at this point. Shutting that down was the perfect move if there was any doubt at all that Romano would try to return for the conclusion of this season and end up hurting his elbow or making it worse.
Over the past few years, Romano has emerged as one of baseball’s top closers. Roman, who was an All-Star in 2021 and 2022, has finished his last three full seasons with an ERA under three. The Blue Jays will need Romano pitching at full strength if they are to extend Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and try to retool in order to make a run at the postseason.
