Sadly, a man has passed away in Torquay following a terrible crash. The collision with the car occurred on Newton Road and Shiphay Lane in Torquay, severely injuring the rider of a mobility scooter who subsequently passed away from his wounds.

On Wednesday, August 28, at 9:15 a.m., police were summoned to the scene of a collision between a silver Citroen C3 and a mobility scooter. With injuries considered potentially fatal, the 79-year-old user of a mobility scooter was transported to the Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital.

Sadly, he has since died as a result of his injuries, police have said. His next of kin are aware.

A statement from Devon and Cornwall Police said: “Officers investigating a collision between a car and a mobility scooter in Torquay have been informed that the injured scooter rider has since died from his injuries.

“The collision took place at the Newton Road junction with Shiphay Lane at 9.15am on Wednesday 28 August. The collision involved a silver Citroen C3 and a mobility scooter.

“As a result of the collision a 79-year-old local man was taken to Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital with injuries thought to be life-threatening. Sadly, he has since passed away as a result of injuries sustained during the collision. His next of kin are aware.

“The road was closed while an investigation was carried out at the scene.”
