Torquay United lost ten points in the National League after the team declared its intention to file for bankruptcy.

The National League South team drops from 12th to 17th place in the standings with 41 points, three points above the relegation zone.

The Devon club’s owner, Clare Osborne, announced in February that he could no longer afford the club and that he intended to appoint administrators. This led to the sanction.

According to league regulations, planning to add administrators is considered an insolvency event and will result in an immediate ten-point deduction.

“Torquay United has been deducted ten points from the 2023/24 National League South table after the club submitted its intention to appoint administrators,” the National League said in a statement.

“The Club is subject to an automatic sporting sanction for violating League rules regarding being affected by an insolvency event, as it had previously announced its intention to appoint administrators.

“Therefore, Torquay United Football Club is now subject to an automatic ten point deduction, which is applied with immediate effect, in line with National League rule 13.A.1.”

“The League is working closely with the Club and will make no further statement at this time.”
