A man was discovered deceased at a property and police have launched a murder investigation.
Detectives stated that when the emergency services arrived at around 12pm, they discovered the man, who was in his 60s, deceased in the property
Additionally, a woman was found to have severe injuries and was sent to the hospital.
A male, 25, has been taken into custody.
The situation is being handled as a domestic issue, and it is thought that all three may be connected.
“Police received a report of a concern for safety for a couple at a property in the Newcastle Road area of the town shortly after 12.50pm,” stated Detective Chief Inspector Anthony Kelly.
“When the police arrived, they found an unconscious man’s body that was not breathing. There was also a woman inside the house who was in her 60s and had severe head injuries.
“The woman received medical attention on the spot, and she was later transported to a hospital for further treatment of her wounds. Right now, her condition is still steady. At the scene, the individual was regrettably declared dead.
“At around 2:00 PM, authorities took into custody and placed a 25-year-old male under arrest on charges of attempted and actual murder. He is still being held in detention and helping the police with their investigations.
