Two men have died in separate road collisions in Ulster.

The collision between a car and a van happened at around 6.15am at Moneygorbet near Broomfield.

The male driver of the car was pronounced dead at the scene and his body was removed to the mortuary at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda.

A male passenger, also aged in his 20s, was injured and has been taken to the same hospital to be treated for non-life threatening injuries.

A man in his 50s who was driving the van was also taken to Our Lady of Lourdes with non-life threatening injuries.

The road has been closed by gardaĆ­ and a technical examination will be carried out. It is understood the road will remain closed for some time.

GardaĆ­ have appealed for any witnesses to contact them.

Police officers attended the scene with the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service, Air Ambulance and Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service.

A police spokesperson said: “A man aged in his 60s, the driver of the Hyundai, was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

The A2 Bangor to Belfast dual carriageway was closed for a number of hours but has since reopened.”

Police have asked anyone with any information or dashcam or mobile phone footage to get in contact with the collision investigation unit in Sprucefield on 101, quoting reference number 994 09/05/24.

Meanwhile, a man in his 20s died following a collision on the N2 between Castleblayney and Carrickmacross in Co Monaghan.
