After what’s been his toughest season as owner, Chansiri finally looks like he’s letting his actions do the talking at Sheffield Wednesday.

Recent reports have revealed that the controversial Owls owner is overseeing improvements to the club’s Middlewood training ground, as well as holding positive talks with Danny Rohl regarding the summer ahead.

And it’s said that those talks have included talks over a possible new deal for Rohl, following his miraculous turnaround with Sheffield Wednesday in the Championship.

Rohl’s work in S6 has attracted rival Championship clubs with both Sunderland and Hull City linked in recent weeks.

But recently emerging news regarding Rohl’s contract, or more specifically the compensation that’d needed to prise him from Hillsborough, means that Chansiri may be due some credit.

Danny Rohl compensation at Sheffield Wednesday

The Star has verified rumours that clubs hoping to sign Rohl this summer would have to fork over a “eye-watering” £5 million salary.

Furthermore, any club interested in hiring Rohl and his backroom staff at Sheffield Wednesday would have to pay a hefty £10 million in compensation.

Despite his outstanding performance in S6, Rohl’s contract only lasts until the conclusion of the 2024–2025 season, therefore it appears doubtful that any team will pay £5 million in compensation for the German.

But should Rohl depart, that safety net is available. And now that he’s seen how successful Rohl is as a coach, Chansiri will undoubtedly add another sizable pay amount to safeguard the team in addition to pushing for a new contract for Rohl.

New contract for Danny Rohl could present Sheffield Wednesday with one issue

Throughout his tenure at Sheffield Wednesday, it’s seemed clear that Rohl has been willing to stay on, but that he needs assurances about this summer and the future of the ambition.

Mainly, Rohl wants to see that Chansiri is ambitious as he is. And so far this summer, we’ve seen Chansiri make a lot of positive moves.

A new contract for Rohl would be a huge plus for the Owls. But Rohl, knowing that he’s a wanted man and that there’s still a long way for Chansiri and Sheffield Wednesday to go, might not fancy having a huge compensation fee over his head.

It would certainly lock him in at Sheffield Wednesday. But then if the club doesn’t keep on moving in the right direction, he wouldn’t be able to jump ship.

Therefore, Chansiri may need to strike a balance and make a concession. He may need to make sure that Rohl has a way out of the club if he gets dissatisfied with his contract.

However, things are looking up for Sheffield Wednesday right now.
