Discussing the global effects of political turmoil in the West with UN Representative Mark Carney

Pay attention: In this edition of the GZERO World Podcast, we discuss how the impending elections in major Western democracies like the US, Canada, the UK, and France could affect our ability to address global issues like cyber defence, artificial intelligence, and climate change. Together with Ian Bremmer, Mark Carney, a former governor of the Banks of England and Canada and current UN Special Envoy on Climate Action & Finance, examines closely at France, Britain, and Canada—three of the United States’ closest friends.

Similar to what happened after Brexit, the upcoming elections in France and the UK could bring about significant changes for the West. According to Carney, there are still a lot of parts of the UK-EU relationship that require revision.

In addition, he emphasises the strategic significance of the US-Canada alliance and Canada’s standing as a trustworthy ally in the battle against climate change, vital minerals, and national security.
