Four people have been confirmed dead in a serious crash on the M5 near Gloucestershire.
The northbound carriageway has been blocked due to an accident and traffic streches back several miles.
Traffic is starting to queue due to the crash which involves a lorry between J15, the M4 Almondsbury Interchange, and J14 for the B4509 to Thornbury.
Emergency services are at the scene but the accident is likely to cause severe and lengthy delays.
The woman and two children who suffered life-threatening injuries in yesterday’s M5 crash are in a critical but stable condition in hospital.
Police also say they have spoken to the driver of the lorry involved in a crash and although they have not arrested them, they are “keeping an open mind” about a criminal investigation.
The tireless emergency services will continue into the early hours of the morning recovering vehicles and establishing the cause of the tragic pile up.
In the morning at some stage the police investigating the incident will review whether to reopen the M5.
