Following his decision to leave Molineux this summer, Algerian left-back Rayan Ait-Nouri of Wolves has left Manchester City trailing in the race to sign him.
With the 2024–25 Premier League season set to begin in mid–August, Pep Guardiola and Manchester City are anticipated to bolster their roster. Sergio Gomez’s possible departure may present an opportunity to recruit a left-back during the summer transfer window.
During the most recent season, Josko Gvardiol and Nathan Ake have primarily played left back for the Sky Blues; Gvardiol joined the team in August 2023 after leaving RB Leipzig for the Etihad Stadium in a £77 million transfer.
However, after full-back Gomez made just four starts for the Blues in the 2023–24 season, clubs like Real Sociedad and Bayern Munich are interested in signing the Spaniard. As a result, Manchester City may attempt to buy a more conventional left-back.
Last summer, Wolves and Manchester City engaged in significant transfer activity. They finalised a £53 million agreement for Matheus Nunes to move late to the Etihad Stadium, as a result of Kevin De Bruyne’s chronic hamstring injury.
Following the announcement that the Premier League champions were among three clubs interested in signing full-back Rayan Ait-Nouri, the two clubs may close their deal for a second summer in a row.
The 23-year-old played in 33 Premier League games for Wolves the previous campaign and contributed directly to two goals in three Emirates FA Cup matches.
According to Abdel Hamed, the Algerian international, who appeared in 38 games for Gary O’Neil throughout the season, has informed Wolves that he plans to leave the Midlands club this summer.
Liverpool, Chelsea, and Manchester City are all reportedly “tracking” the 23-year-old, but Liverpool is now said to be in “pole position” to sign the Wolves left-back.
The Etihad team has previously been connected to a move for Pedro Neto, a midfielder for Wolves and Portugal.
