As emergency personnel scramble to clean up the massive diesel spillage that occurred earlier today, February 16, two lanes of the northbound carriageway around Junction 8 (M5 interchange) have been closed due to a diesel tank blocking the motorway and a “substantial spillage,” according to a statement from National Highways. Traffic monitoring website Inrix reported “very slow traffic” on the M6 because of a “shed load.”
The incident took place at 3.44am, with a “co-ordinated effort in place” to address the situation quickly, the statement added. Traffic is being affected during the busy rush hour period, as many look forward to the last working day of the week.
