On a motorway, a man was sadly killed after being hit by a truck.

There were complaints of a “man on the hard shoulder” Wednesday night, August 14, prompting emergency personnel to be dispatched to the M56 near Manchester Airport. At approximately 9 p.m., the guy, a 42-year-old pedestrian, is thought to have been hit by a “articulated vehicle” that was going along the road between junctions six and five.

He was declared dead at the spot, according to the police. The event is being investigated to “understand the circumstances,” and his next of kin has been notified.

The M.E.N reported that last night, as emergency personnel responded, the entire eastbound section of the M56 was cordoned down. While accident investigation work was being done on the spot, the roadway remained closed throughout the night.

This morning at around 7.30 a.m., police reopened the road. Contacting Greater Manchester Police is advised for anyone who may have dash cam footage or who witnessed the event.

“Last night we were called to reports of a man on the hard shoulder on the M56, between junction 6 and 5,” the force stated in a statement. It is thought that at approximately nine o’clock at night, an articulated car was heading towards Manchester on the M56 when it struck a pedestrian.

Sadly, despite the best efforts of emergency services, the pedestrian, a 42-year-old man, was pronounced deceased at the scene. His next of kin have been informed, and an investigation is underway to understand the circumstances.

“We are now appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the incident to come forward. Police are also keen to speak to anyone who may have any footage, including dashcam, CCTV, or mobile phone footage from the area in the moments leading up to the collision
