A man’s body has been found in woodland in Greater Manchester with a man arrested on suspicion of murder.

A cordon is in place in an area off Threapwood Road in Wythenshawe after the body of the unnamed man was discovered this morning. Greater Manchester Police responded to “reports of an unconscious male” in the wooded area at around 7.30am on Thursday.

A man in his 40s has now been arrested on suspicion of murder said the force. Officers have taped off the wooded area, known as ‘Big Wood’, between the Concord Business Park and Peel Hall tram. A number of police vehicles are stationed on the scene this afternoon, which is between Threapwood Road and Simonsway, and officers can be seen looking through the undergrowth as part of the investigation.

A GMP spokesperson told The Mirror that while a man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and is in police custody, the deceased man is yet to be identified. A statement read: “At around 7.30am this morning (Thursday 15 August 2024), we were called to reports of an unconscious male on Threapwood Road in Wythenshawe. Officers attended and sadly found a body in the wooded area.

Images show a wide cordon that now covers much of the wooded area where there is quite dense undergrowth. Big Wood isn’t a park – there a few paths for ramblers and dog walkers but stray off these and you’d struggle to get far. Off the paths is overgrown with nettles and brambles and although the area is not far from Manchester Airport, there are not many passers-by and the only people coming and going tend to be from nearby offices.
