The motorway was closed for more than seven hours after the collision on August 15
A man died in an accident on the M6 in Cumbria has been named by the police. The incident occurred on August 15, and the freeway was closed for over seven hours following.
With emergency services on the scene, the northbound lane between Kirkby Lonsdale’s junction 36 and Tebay’s junction 38 was cut off at little after 11 a.m. At the time, National Highways North West reported that a “serious collision involving one car” was the cause.
Cumbria Police reported on Tuesday, August 20, that the collision between junctions 37 and 38 claimed the life of Alexander Bonnar, 69, of Glasgow. The police verified that no further cars were involved.
After the crash, the air ambulance made a landing shortly after eleven in the morning. Due to investigation work, the motorway was stopped until 7:20 p.m., causing significant traffic jams and lengthy delays in the surrounding area and on roads through Kendal.
A “fatal crash” was subsequently confirmed by the police, although they withheld any other information regarding the driver.
