Man reported dead on M6 southbound after vehicle fire

There are delays on the M6 this afternoon after a car fire.

The incident was first reported at 10.40am this morning (29 September) with Lancashire Fire & Rescue Service and motorway police called to the scene.

The fire happened between junction 33 for Garstang and junction 32 for Broughton on the southbound carriageway of the M6. There is a lane closure in place and delays of 45 minutes.

The car has been extinguished and recovery has been arranged, National Highways: North West said.

“One lane (of three) is closed on the M6 southbound in Lancashire due to a car fire between J33 (for Garstang) and J32 (M55),” a spokeswoman stated. Recovery has been scheduled, and the vehicle has been put out of commission.


“There is seven miles of traffic and a 45-minute approach delay. Give yourself more time for the trip.
