Man’s body found near city centre cathedral
The death of a man whose body was found in Sheffield city centre is being treated as unexplained, police have said.
Emergency services were called at about 05:15 BST on Tuesday to reports of a body being found near Sheffield Cathedral in Church Street.
South Yorkshire Police said inquiries were under way to establish the circumstances of the man’s death.
Formal identification was yet to take place and officers would remain at the scene in Church Street throughout the day, the force added.
Following the discovery of a man’s body this morning close to the cathedral in the heart of Sheffield, police there have opened an inquiry.
According to South Yorkshire Police, they received a call at 5:19 a.m. on Tuesday, July 16, regarding the discovery of a man’s body.
The man’s death is presently being investigated by officers as “unexplained,” and they are gathering information about what led up to it.
The cordon cuts off much of the square outside Sheffield Cathedral and almost all of East Parade.
Two police vehicles could be seen on the Fargate side of the square with numerous officers guarding the cordon perimeter earlier.
A green tent can be seen near the benches on the East Parade side of the Cathedral.
