Wakefield Trinity have shown their intentions to make a splash if they return to Super League next year with the announcment of their first major signing for 2025.
McMeeken is no stranger to West Yorkshire, having established himself first with the Catalans Dragons and then with the local rivals Castleford Tigers. Head coach Daryl Powell saw McMeeken’s potential at London and took a chance on him while he was with the Tigers.
Powell, the head coach of Trinity, stated, “I believe Mike’s acquisition is a statement of intent from the club.”
He is among the best professionals I have ever worked with, and both as a leader and a player, he has developed even more since joining the Catalans.
“I look forward to working with him again in the Trinity colours as we drive towards establishing Wakefield as a premier club in British rugby league.”
“I am excited to be joining this new-look Wakefield team in 2025,” McMeeken stated. I was very excited to be a part of the trip after having a nice talk with Powelly about the direction the club is going.
“I’ve only heard positive things about Matt since he took over the team, both on and off the pitch.
“I am really excited for this new challenge and building something special at this club with so much history.”
