The midfielder was one of six players released by the Magpies on Monday afternoon
Notts County announced their retained list on Monday afternoon, indicating that they are well on their way to making League Two preparations for the upcoming season.
The statement outlines the course that the Magpies intend to take after a lacklustre second half of the season, with a focus on adding young, inexperienced players to the roster in front of Stuart Maynard’s first full term as manager.
Six players were revealed to be departing the team after their contracts expired in the summer, while three more were given the opportunity to look for possibilities outside of Meadow Lane.
Aden Baldwin, Tobi Adebayo, John Bostock, Richard Brindley, Jim O’Brien, and Connell Rawlinson, the defender, have all been made available for a move away from the East Midlands this summer. These players will be looking for new clubs before the 2019–20 season.
After struggling for the majority of the 2023–24 season, young Luther Munakandafa, goalkeeper Aidan Stone, and midfielder Will Randall have been given the opportunity to investigate the chances of regular game time.
The Magpies did acknowledge that Cedwyn Scott’s option to remain with the team for an additional year has been activated, and Geraldo Bajrami, who has missed a significant portion of the season due to injury, has been offered the chance to prolong his stay at Meadow Lane.
John Bostock’s Notts County career
Although every player who has departed the club has had their defining moment while wearing a Notts County shirt, none have been as significant as John Bostock’s about a year ago.
The midfielder has gained prominence on the pitch after moving to Meadow Lane in December 2022, none more so than during their National League championship.
Bostock was unlucky to lose a thrilling five-goal thriller despite scoring a magnificent free-kick away at Wrexham. However, he would score from a set-piece again, this time at Wembley in the play-off final against Chesterfield with three minutes remaining, forcing extra time.
With a performance that was arguably saved for beneath the Wembley arch, the 32-year-old showed off his expertise and took the game by storm, helping Luke Williams’ team to a record-breaking season’s conclusion with their just rewards. Bostock had the opportunity to send the team back to the Football League, but the Magpies supporters have clearly forgiven him for missing the crossbar with his panenka penalties.
He would maintain his strong play at the beginning of the season, but after a hectic schedule of games, Bostock’s play clearly declined around the beginning of the year as Scott Robertson’s arrival rested the midfield and gave him a breather.
The Magpies are greatly boosted by Matty Palmer’s return to the team ahead of the preseason, and Bostock’s exit indicates that the team wants younger players and vitality in the middle of the park—Sam Austin and Dan Crowley are two instances of that.
Though the 32-year-old will leave Meadow Lane with the respect of the supporters for his off-field behaviour as well as the bond he formed with them throughout his 18 months with Notts, in addition to his on-field accomplishments.
Jodi Jones and Dan Crowley post emotional farewell to John Bostock
Bostock had a significant impact on the team, as evidenced by the outpouring of support he received on social media following his news of his leaving.
The midfielder received a meaningful note from Dan Crowley first. Their shared faith appears to have strengthened their relationship.
Crowley thanked Bostock on Instagram, calling him a “brother for life” and expressing his appreciation for their time spent together at Meadow Lane.
Another Notts player who took to social media to thank Bostock for coming to the team during the National League season is Jodi Jones. The two have played together for the most of Bostock’s stay at the club.\
