In League One, Rotherham United hopes to challenge Birmingham City for the top spot.

League One boss Steve Evans has cautioned his Rotherham United team that they will be prepared to fight, even against financially strapped Birmingham City, who are already the talk of the third division.

Evans is assembling a Rotherham team to challenge for relegation to the Championship after the team’s disastrous season. Ten new players have already been added by the Scot, including the prolific League One marksman Jonson Clarke-Harris, who left Peterborough United on a free transfer.

The Millers are one of the early favourites because they have advanced to the Championship four times in the previous ten years. But because of their roster and the financial clout of their American owners, Knighthead, the Blues are the overwhelming favourites to win League One.

Evans began his assessment of Rotherham’s opponents by mentioning Blues. In order to increase their finances, Huddersfield Town, another demoted team, sold Jack Rudoni to Coventry City for almost £5 million and hired Michael Duff as manager.

“I think it shows how tough it’s going to be,” Evans stated. Every team will be difficult in their own right, including Birmingham with a £25 million war chest to fund new players, Huddersfield under new management, Wrexham, Stockport, and Mansfield, Bolton Wanderers, and Charlton Athletic under new management and a fantastic manager.

However, we believe that the group we’ve assembled is capable of handling the rigours of League One. Although it’s the hardest in a long time, we’ll be prepared.

The Blues will play Evans’ team on Saturday, September 21 in Rotherham. The complete League One schedule for the Blues is available HERE.
