This morning, emergency personnel responded to a call regarding a woman’s wellbeing and discovered her dead on the M6 motorway.
At approximately 1.25 am on Friday, police and paramedics hurried to the incident on the M6 near Wigan. Sadly, authorities said that they found a woman’s body.
At this point, no additional information about her has been made public. This morning, the southbound side of the road is experiencing “complex” accident investigation work, with the M6 completely closed from junction 27 to junction 26.
According to a previous statement from GMP Traffic, officers’responded to reports of a person falling from a bridge’. The force is requesting that anyone with information or witnesses to the event contact them.
A GMP spokesman issued the following statement: “We were called to the M6 junction 27 this morning (Friday, August 16, 2024) at around 1.25 am due to a concern for the welfare of a female. Upon arriving at the location, we regretfully found the female’s body.
“As investigators continue, the M6 southbound between junctions 27 and 26 is closed.” In the near future, significant delays are anticipated in the area.

GMP Traffic posted the following on X early this morning: “#INCIDENT | We’re responding to reports of a person falling from a bridge on the M6 between J27 & J26 southbound. The road is stopped as emergency personnel respond, and there will likely be major delays in the region for the foreseeable future. I appreciate your patience during this period.
