After leaving Hull FC, Cam Scott, the new Wakefield Trinity signing, responded to his detractors on social media.
He appeared to be one of the better players on the struggling Black and Whites team this season while playing at second-row.
The 24-year-old was given a two-year contract with a third-year option when his transfer was officially announced on Tuesday.
Before 2025, Trinity has officially confirmed the signing of this Super League player, making him the third after Catalans’ Mike McMeeken and Tom Johnstone.
“I think I reached the point in my career where I needed something new, and when Wakefield came in the opportunity was too good to miss,” Scott stated upon joining.
After hearing the news, numerous fans speculated on social media about what he would make under his new contract. One fan suggested he would make £250,000 a year plus a £5,000 victory bonus.
But Scott didn’t like these remarks, tweeting: “Never been one to do this but I’ve got a good deal of pushback and lots of harsh comments after the news yesterday.
“People jump on speculations of “what they’ve heard” and then go to every social media platform to write their opinions about me as a person and a player is just perplexing. What people don’t realise is that I get paid.
Everyone is free to hold an opinion, but if it’s unfounded and they’ve taken hold of something they’ve “heard,” then it’s absurd and says more about them than it does about me.
“It really says more about those people than it does about me if you want to run with what someone has told you on Facebook or Twitter. Some of the numbers I’ve seen and what people have believed from others posting is wild.”
Both players and supporters offered him encouragement after this post.
