Watford is considering a possible move for Scott Parker while they evaluate managerial candidates, according to a report from The Mirror.
Following their decision to part ways with Valerien Ismael following their most recent 2-1 home loss to Coventry City, Watford is currently searching for a new permanent manager.
Tom Cleverley has been appointed as the Championship team’s acting manager until a replacement is found.
Parker is reportedly “on the Hornets’ radar” as they weigh their options, according to The Mirror.
Watford eye Scott Parker swoop
Parker last managed at Club Brugge in Belgium, and it has been a little over a year since he left the game.
Throughout his playing career, he made 572 appearances as a midfielder for teams including Charlton Athletic, Chelsea, Newcastle United, West Ham United, Tottenham Hotspur, and Fulham. The Londoner also produced eighteen England caps.
At Craven Cottage, the 43-year-old made his managerial debut in 2019 and led the Whites to promotion to the Premier League the following year.
After that, in 2021, Parker relocated to AFC Bournemouth, where he helped the team rise from the second division after finishing in second place.
He needs to make sure his next job is right because his time at Club Brugge didn’t exactly go as planned.
After a challenging campaign, Watford could view him as someone to steady the ship at Vicarage Road. The Hertfordshire team has been playing poorly lately, and they need to start winning games to keep themselves out of the relegation zone.
Parker has a respectable background, and if the Hornets could acquire him, he would be a highly desirable addition. It’s unclear, though, if he would be eager to go there given their history of firing managers.
