Taylor, 21, played 90 minutes for the Trotters, who earned all three points at ToughSheet Community Stadium.
Evatt was impressed, telling The Bolton News, “He did pretty well. They are two really physical strikers, and I remember playing against Uche (Ikpeazu) about ten years ago and coming away with two fractured ribs. He is a genuine challenge and a physical test. I think Caleb, for such a young man, handled it admirably.”
Taylor has had to bide his time for opportunities since his winter switch to Bolton Wanderers.
West Brom gave him the green light to head out the exit door on a temporary basis in the January transfer window to get some experience under his belt.
However, he hasn’t been able to nail down a regular starting role in Evatt’s side and has played only six matches.
He has been a regular for the Midlands club at various junior levels and has appeared three times for the senior squad.
The Trotters sit third in the League One table as they seek promotion, but Derby County only need to draw with Carlisle United on the last day to advance.
Evatt’s side travels to Peterborough United, where Taylor hopes to play more minutes.
His parent club, West Brom, defeated 2-1 at Leicester City and will face Sheffield Wednesday away this weekend.
