Niclas Fullkrug, a striker for Borussia Dortmund, is a player that West Ham United is optimistic they can sign, according to Dharmesh Sheth.

The journalist for Sky Sports revealed on X [30 July] that the Irons and the Bundesliga powerhouses had begun negotiations about Fullkrug’s potential signing. Fullkrug is rumoured to be amenable to the transfer.

The German international’s desire to go to London is anticipated to facilitate the transfer process; according to Sheth, the two teams are currently “discussing the conditions of a deal.”

Sheth’s X account revealed on July 29 that Fullkrug had become a target for Julen Lopetegui’s team, who were also pursuing fellow forward Jhon Duran of Aston Villa.

West Ham could benefit from Fullkrug signing

To date, West Ham has shown ambition in the market, despite the lack of success in their hiring process under Tim Steidten.

While some deals, like the one for Brazil defender Fabricio Bruno, have fallen through and certain pursuits, like Aaron Wan-Bissaka, might go either way, the Hammers have taken the initiative to complete deals for players like Max Kilman and Luis Guilherme.

At 31, Fullkrug is in the prime of his career and would bring a new dimension to Lopetegui’s attack. He only started wearing the German shirt two years ago, having scored 13 goals in 21 appearances.

He scored a goal every two games at his previous club, Werder Bremen, which led to a move to Dortmund on the summer transfer deadline. He went on to score another 12 goals in the Bundesliga.

Many teams are vying for the young player’s signature, which is slowing down the club’s pursuit of Duran from Villa. Fullkrug may suggest going with a ready-made, seasoned replacement instead.

An update on Reiss Nelson’s current circumstances as West Ham investigates a trade is provided in other news.
