Jamal Lowe is about to provide a significant boost to one of Pompey’s new Championship rivals.
The former Pompey favourite, who is free to sign this summer, is said to have had a medical at Sheffield Wednesday today in preparation for his Hillsborough move.

A deal is “imminent,” according to The Star, our sister publication, as manager Danny Rohl approaches the completion of his fifth transfer window signing.

The 29-year-old Lowe’s contract with Premier League AFC Bournemouth expired, making him a free agent. He played 35 Championship games while on loan at Swansea last season, where he finished with nine goals and three assists.

The Jamaican international was said to be of interest to the Blues early in the summer. After making 119 appearances for the team between 2017 and 2019, head coach John Mousinho and sporting director Rich Hughes were considering an emotional return home. The News is aware that any possible deal was financially unattainable for them, though, as they shifted their focus to find more offensive reinforcements elsewhere.

Since then, Pompey has added Josh Murphy, a 29-year-old winger who signed a three-year contract with the Fratton Park team, on a free transfer from Oxford United, the team that helped the latter achieve promotion. As their transfer plans continue to take shape, the Blues are also poised to sign Middlesbrough forward Sammy Silvera on a season-long loan.

The Fratton faithful would have been thrilled to see Lowe return to his old haunts. But as Sheffield Wednesday gets closer to signing the forward, it looks like the 2017 League Two champion will be wearing blue and white on their next journey back to the south coast.

On Saturday, October 26, the Owls will visit Fratton Park after this week’s release of the 2024–25 Championship schedule. On Saturday, April 26, the concluding day of the season, the Blues will travel to Hillsborough.
