Dion Rankine, a forward for Chelsea, has signed a three-year contract with Wigan Athletic, subject to FA, EFL, and Premier League approval.
The 21-year-old winger is Shaun Maloney’s third summer acquisition. He had a productive loan spell at Exeter City the previous season.
Rankine made 36 appearances and scored his first senior goal against Reading while playing for Exeter City. He started his career at Cambridge United and moved to Chelsea at the age of 14.
Rankine exclaimed, “I’m so happy to be here.” “For my career, it’s the appropriate move. I want to play the best football I can here because I think I have a great opportunity to grow and develop.”
Manager Shaun Maloney said he was happy with the deal, saying, “Dion has every quality we seek for in a wide forward. He will infuse our attacking style with speed and 1v1 skill. Off the ball, he has an incredible attitude.
Ted Sharman-Lowe, a custodian for Chelsea, has been signed by Doncaster Rovers on a loan deal for the forthcoming campaign.
The 21-year-old has been a member of Chelsea’s roster since 2020. He began his career at Burton Albion’s Academy after leaving Leicester City’s Academy. While on loan at Havant, Waterlooville, and Bromley, he acquired experience.
Sharman-Lowe’s talents were emphasised by Rovers goalkeeping coach Kyle Letheren, who said, “We identified Ted as one of our main targets and I’m delighted we’ve been able to bring him to the football club.” He is a highly regarded player at Chelsea and has some really solid referrals. At 6 feet 4 inches, he is a superb size and an excellent shot blocker. Ted and I seem like a great match, and I’m looking forward to training with another accomplished goalie every day.
Along with Joe Sbarra, Jordan Gibson, Harry Clifton, Tom Nixon, and Ephraim Yeboah, Sharman-Lowe is the sixth player the Rovers have signed this summer, adding strength to their roster for the next year.
