Vinnie Jones once left the entire Liverpool players and staff raging after vandalising the iconic ‘This Is Anfield’ sign before a game for Wimbledon

After damaging the famous “This Is Anfield” sign, former Wimbledon captain Vinnie Jones infuriated the whole Liverpool team and staff.

The Crazy Gang of Wimbledon were a unique bunch, and their raucous antics earned them a reputation and moniker wherever they went. And Jones’s antics caused the Reds to lose their cool when they faced Liverpool at Anfield on one particular occasion.

The famous “This Is Anfield” sign is located above the tunnel leading to the pitch at Anfield, and players have touched it as part of their pre-match ritual. Bill Shankly placed the sign in the first place with the intention of reminding the players of their respective teams.

Supporters hold the tunnel sign in high regard since it represents the club’s heritage and the expectations placed on the players who don the red shirt. However, Jones made the decision to enrage everyone around him with a simple prank while Wimbledon was visiting Anfield on the road.

Jones stated, “We used to have the large white tape that was used to put on our ankles, and I got a big reel of it and un-taped it and got a sharpie and scrawled ‘bothered’? during an interview with the Football, Music, and Me podcast. and it screamed, “This is Anfield, I just want bang,” as we were leaving. We slammed it straight over it.

“They went absolute, with that and our music, and as you walked out you looked up as it said, This is Anfield, ‘bothered?’ right across like something from the Sex Pistols, they went mental.

“They wouldn’t let us in the player’s lounge after, they banned us, they had all marshals straight in the dressing room and straight to the coach. But it was all part of our confidence you see, it was all psychology.”
