They will be named League Two champions at the first attempt if they win all nine of the league games left this season.

With nearly 150 spectators in attendance, they defeated Mersey Valley 6-1 at Winsford Academy on Saturday to take first place from Clay Brow FC.

Captain Carl Harvey was the man of the match, with two goals from Connor Hooks and one each from Terry Cain, Scott Taylor, Devon Renshaw, and Dean Clarke.

The team led by Rob Hopley has now won 14 straight league games, many of them by significant margins.

In their winning run, they have gone 13-0, 7-0, 7-1, and 6-0, scoring 59 goals and giving up just six in the process.

They also have three walkover victories throughout that time, so if those games had happened, their scoring record would have been considerably higher.

Since their 2-1 loss against Newton on August 8, 2023, or six months ago, Town has not suffered a league loss.

On Saturday, they will visit Lymm Rovers in the JA Walton Challenge Cup second round, taking a break from their regular season.

Hartford FC, on the other hand, is presently winning their struggle to stay in the bottom half of the competition.

They are five points ahead of Wigan Town FC, who are in the bottom half of the table, thanks to a 2-0 victory at home against fellow struggling team Maine Road Reserves at the beginning of the season and two prior draws.

Despite their recent 1-0 home loss to mid-table St Helens Town, they have yet to secure a second victory of the season.

They are playing Clay Brow on the road this Saturday, and they will be aiming to reclaim the top spot because Winsford Town is playing in the cup.

Lostock Gralam, meanwhile, will be trying to maximise the games they have in hand in their own survival struggle in the Premier Division.

They have two to five games left against the four clubs above them, none of whom are more than three points ahead of them, and they are currently sitting in second place.

Despite having played up to eight more games than some other teams in the top half, Middlewich Town, who are currently in seventh place, is the opponent in their previous four league games, which they lost 1-0 on Saturday.

On Saturday, the Grey Lambs go to Winstanley Warriors, who are ranked eighth.
