A pedestrian has been killed in a Woking hit and run on Maybury Hill this morning . The road remains closed this afternoon between the junctions of Oriental Road and Maybury Road while Surrey Police investigate.

A man in his 30s has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, failing to stop at the scene of a collision, driving whilst unfit through drink or drugs, and causing death by careless driving while unfit.

South East Coast Ambulance Service attended the scene but sadly the pedestrian was declared deceased at the scene.

Aside from the road closure on Maybury Hill, Woking has been hit with further travel disruption due to rail delays.

The West Byfleet and Woking line has experienced delays this afternoon, and trains are travelling at a reduced speed.

Trains shouldn’t be delayed by more than five minutes due to a signalling problem, according to South Western Railways.

South Western Railways said: “Train services running through these stations will be delayed by up to five minutes. Disruption is expected until 3pm July 9. We have been informed of a signalling problem between West Byfleet and Woking.

“This means trains must run at a reduced speed on the line towards Woking. For further information or onward travel advice please speak to a member of staff or use a station help point. We are very sorry for any delay that this may cause to your journey.”
