According to Liam Keen of the Express & Star, Wolverhampton Wanderers manager Gary O’Neil is expected to stay at Molineux after sources ruled out rumours that Manchester United may be interested in hiring him.

Under O’Neil, Wolves have had a great 2023–24 season, and at the end of the current one, they hope to sign him to a new deal.

Wanderers have managed to offer themselves a chance of securing European football at Molineux, despite being tipped to be embroiled in a Premier League relegation struggle this season. O’Neil may have caught the attention of multiple Premier League teams as he only moved to the Black Country last summer.

Journalist Liam Keen of the Express & Star says that there is no truth to the rumours that Gary O’Neil is moving from Wolves to Manchester United. There were rumours earlier this week that the Red Devils wanted to discuss a possible coaching transfer to Old Trafford with the 40-year-old Wanderers manager.

In the wake of INEOS chairman Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s minority takeover, United is seeking to completely restructure the team. To allay worries about O’Neil’s possible exit, Keen asserts that the 20-time English champions are preparing for a future under head coach Erik ten Hag.

Matt Hobbs, the sporting director of Wolves, met with members of the media earlier this month to talk over a number of ongoing matters at Molineux. The three-time English champions intend to start contract negotiations with O’Neil in the summer, according to the transfer honcho. With two seasons left on his current contract, the former head coach of AFC Bournemouth has made an impression in his first year in command. Regarding O’Neil’s new deal, Hobbs stated.

Wolves will have to pick themselves up and be ready for the last ten league games of the season after the March international break. The Wanderers suffered a heartbreaking 3-2 FA Cup quarterfinal loss to Coventry City on March 16.

Despite the absences of Pedro Neto and Hwang Hee-chan, O’Neil will insist that his team is ready to take on Aston Villa in a West Midlands derby this coming weekend. Meanwhile, Matheus Cunha has just returned to training after suffering a hamstring injury.

For Wolves, who are presently three points out of seventh position and in ninth place, getting back into European football for the first time since 2019–20 won’t be an easy feat. Only one of O’Neil’s team’s remaining games—against the current top four—must be played at home.
