Latest Wolverhampton Wanderers news from BirminghamLive as club activate option to make Tommy Doyle loan from Manchester City a permanent move

With the signing of Tommy Doyle on loan from Manchester City, Wolves have exercised their option to extend Doyle’s spell at Molineux.

The 22-year-old has been on loan from the champions for the season, but he has now signed a four-year deal that would keep him at Wolves until 2028, with an additional two-year option.

Doyle, who came up through the junior system and made seven appearances for City, has made thirty appearances for Wolves this season as they appear destined for a mid-table Premier League finish.

“We’ve never seen Tommy as a player on loan, and he hasn’t acted like one,” stated sporting director Matt Hobbs. He’s progressively gained more time and importance, which is fantastic, in my opinion first year.

He provides a unique offering to our midfield compared to the others, so this was almost inevitable. He embraces the club’s identity and the cultural norms we’re attempting to establish among the members.

“He’s the precise kind of player I think Wolves should be signing; he’s a terrific asset for what we’re trying to accomplish off the pitch and he provides us so much on it.

As a football club, we like to sign players who, for the most part, haven’t achieved their peak and have a tonne of potential still in them.

“Tommy is only a small part of the player he may become as his comprehension and acclimatisation to the league grow. I’m very happy for him right now and for his future with the Wolves.

After defeating Pep Guardiola’s team at Molineux earlier in the season, Wolves will look to complete a double over the treble champions when they play Manchester City on Saturday (5.30pm). However, because Doyle’s transfer isn’t official until July 1, he can’t play against his parent club.
