The two Premier League players who were detained over the weekend on suspicion of rape and assault are not, according to Wolves, part of their team.
The two 19-year-old footballers, who are on the same Premier League squad, were questioned by police before being granted bail.
It is believed that both players have been suspended by the Premier League team while a police investigation is ongoing.
According to a police spokesperson, “two men have been arrested by officers in connection with a reported rape.”
A 19-year-old guy was taken into custody on charges of assault and encouraging a sexual assault. On suspicion of rape, a second 19-year-old guy was taken into custody.
Since then, both guys have been freed on police bail.
In response to a social media backlash, Wolves issued a statement on Wednesday refuting reports that two of its players were implicated.
“Wolves released a statement stating that an article in the newspaper yesterday led to unwarranted conjecture on the internet regarding the identities of two people who are allegedly being investigated by the police.”
“Although we normally don’t discuss ongoing police matters, we feel it’s important to ensure that the allegations don’t pertain to any Wolves players in order to safeguard their wellbeing.”
In 2022, the Premier League mandated that teams provide sexual consent education to all employees and players.
It came after a run of events involving Premier League players, including as Benjamin Mendy and Mason Greenwood.
