FootballTransfers can confirm that advanced talks over a possible transfer to the Molineux Stadium are underway between Wolves and Southampton’s top striker Che Adams.

The 27-year-old, whose Southampton contract is scheduled to expire next month, has become a top target for Wolves, who intend to use the free agent to enhance their offensive options ahead of the forthcoming Premier League season.

Adams was a key player in Southampton’s campaign, which gave them an opportunity to return to the Premier League for the first time after being relegated the previous season.

The negotiations between Adams’ agents and the team’s officials are reportedly going well, but it looks Wolves has gained an advantage in the fight for Adams’ signature.

Adam contributed 20 goals to the Saints this season, but it’s unclear if he’ll be well enough to participate in Southampton’s second-leg playoff semifinal matchup against West Brom on Friday, which would be his final match with the team.

After five years on the south coast, where he scored 49 goals in 190 games, the attacker is expected to depart the Saints when his contract expires in June.

Adams said earlier this year that Southampton and the city will “always play a part” in his life.

“When your kid is born there and you’ve spent most of your life and your football down there, it’s always special,” Adams remarked in an interview with the Saints matchday programme.

“Southampton will always have a place in our lives, particularly the life of my daughter. A Premier League team is a group like Southampton.Adams said earlier this year that Southampton and the city will “always play a part” in his life.

“Any team that’s come here this season can see how well established and how big the club is, in terms of fanbase and in terms of the staff around the place as well.

“It’s a Premier League club. For me personally, it’s just about – and I said it in a statement at the end of last season – getting the club back to where it should be again because that’s where we deserve to be.”
