The owners of Worcester Warriors, Atlas, has undergone a pre-pack administration and is now owned by Loxwood Holdings.

Chris Holland, director of Loxwood Holdings confirmed on April 25, that Atlas had entered into an insolvency process and it had gone through a pre-packaged administration process.

During a parliamentary discussion on the government’s new football funding model, Worcester MP Robin Walker stated that sports like rugby would profit from a similar system.

He has advocated for a well-balanced regulatory framework that shields clubs from unfit individuals from holding directorships, a situation that has left teams like Worcester Warriors bankrupt.

According to the plan, a robust regulatory structure would be established to guarantee that club managers has the necessary skills to oversee the organisation in an environmentally responsible manner.

Like many other American towns and cities, Worcester is passionate about sports, therefore he remarked, “I think it’s important that we bring back a viable professional rugby team here.”

Rugby, along with numerous other sports, would profit from a robust yet impartial regulation that safeguards clubs from unfit persons who could damage them financially by taking on the role of director.

“With the help of our local rugby clubs, I hope the government can continue to learn more about what works from the football financial framework.”

The Worcester Warriors haven’t had a top-tier rugby team since the RFU suspended them in 2022.

Although Worcester Warriors was acquired by Atlas in May 2023, the team hasn’t played a game since its administration in 2022.

A previous statement from Sixways Stadium stated: “Elite level rugby is important to Worcester, and we have had proactive dialogue with the RFU and the Championship, including giving formal notice of the intent to return Worcester Warriors to the second tier of English Rugby.”

The Worcester Warriors Supporters Trust board described the news as “overwhelmingly positive” and stated that it supports the pre-pack administration.

According to a statement, “The board feels strongly and unanimously that it’s time for supporters to support the club’s new investors and ownership, and to make sure we’re doing everything we can to energise the local rugby community.”

“We will continue to work with Loxwood Holdings and the new operating company of Worcester Warriors to enable our primary aim, the return of Worcester Warriors to Sixways Stadium.”
